Lauren Has Strep

Lauren started complaining her throat hurt Sunday morning.  I thought it was just allergies since the weather keeps switching back and forth from hot to cold and back again so I didn't think much of it.  Monday when I picked her up from school she was still saying it hurt but she was not running a fever so I still thought it was just allergies.  By Monday night she was not wanting to eat because it hurt and was more tired than normal.  So I called the Dr office and they luckily were still open but didn't have an appointment until 8:30 pm.  Kraig took her while I stayed home with Colton and Taylor.  It turns out she had strep.  :-(  So the doctor gave us a prescription for antibiotics.  Kraig dropped it off at Walgreens and came home.  Lauren went to bed around 9:30 but the prescription wasn't ready until 10:30...so I picked up the prescription, woke Lauren up (she was totally out of it btw), gave her the meds and went to bed around 11.  We all slept great that night and she stayed home from school Tuesday.  By Tuesday afternoon and 2 rounds of meds she was feeling great!
Stats:
43.44 lbs
44.88 inches
She fell asleep on the doctors table while waiting for him to see her.

Hives Day 2

Well the Dr said they would get worse before they got better since the antibiotic will be in his system for a few days...he was right. Poor guy woke up this morning with hives on his face, neck, ears, etc. :-(

My little man is not himself...

At the Dr.'s Office

Sunday night Colton started having a runny nose which I chalked up to teething because he is also chewing on everything and slobbering on his clothes. Well Sunday night my cool, calm and collected happy baby boy was no longer those things. :-( He wailed and cried like I have never heard him before! So Monday I took him to the Dr. at 8:40 a.m. and by 9 we had the diagnosis that he has ear infections in both ears. He had this 3 weeks ago and the dr said that the meds were probably just not strong enough that they didn't heal it...they just made the pain go away for a bit. So now we are starting a new antibiotic (Cefdinir) that should kill the virus. My baby boy and I didn't get much sleep Sunday or Monday night as the only way he could sleep was to sleep on my chest upright which meant I slept sitting up (not the most comfortable position but you do what you have to when your kids are sick!)...and at that it was only for about maybe 30 minutes at a time as I would say we were up every hour at least 1 time. Most of the time both nights, we walked the floor bouncing or I sat up not able to move because if I moved he woke up. Due to the construction we are staying at Nana and Papaw Beck's house so Kraig, Lauren, me and Colton are all in one room so while I'm consoling Colton Kraig was trying to keep Lauren asleep. The funny part was Monday night Lauren woke up and said "mommy, he wants to eat!" like "shut him up mommy!" LOL I stayed home with him Monday and Tuesday because he was just not himself....I spent all day Monday holding him so he could sleep because if I put him down he just cried (pressure on the ears). Then yesterday was a bit better as he actually played some so I was able to get some work done from home. Last night was wonderful with him only waking up 2 or 3 times! He did sleep on my chest again...and at 5 a.m. pooped 3 times in a row (just after i changed each diaper of course)! The other funny story is that since we are staying at Kraig's moms spare bedroom it's a room I'm not used to so it's very dark and in the middle of the night Monday night Colton was screaming and I knew it was time for more Tylenol...so I'm searching for it in the dark...finally found it and kept pushing the button on my phone to get some light to make sure I'm giving him the correct dosage. Well I had just bought this Tylenol so the bottle was nice and full but at 2 am with no sleep and pure darkness that was the last thing I'm thinking about. So I get the dosage out and put the bottle in the same hand as the dropper so I can use my other hand to again push my phone for 2 seconds of light. Well when I put the dropper up to his mouth to give him Tylenol (which meant tilting my hand toward his face) the bottle of Tylenol spilled all down the side of his stomach! So needless to say he got a Tylenol bath at 2 am followed by a change of clothes and a wipe bath...all in the dark! :-) Oh well...I'm just glad it didn't pour directly into his mouth!!! Oh the things we go through when our kids are sick! I'm just happy he is starting to feel better and i could be there for him when he needed me!

Colton's 6 Month Checkup

We took Colton to his 6 month check up this morning. All is well but he has a double ear infection. Other than that he is a happy chubby boy!
Stats:
Weight 18.5 pounds
Height: 26.4 inches
Head size: 17.74 inches
What does this all mean?
He is in the 75th percentile for his weight, 50th percentile for his height and 80th percentile for his head size. :-)

He received the following shots/immunizations:
Rotateq 2.0 mL PO
Prevnar 0.5 mL IM
Pentacel 0.5 mL IM
hep B o.5 mL IM
He is still waking up 2-3 times a night to eat but it is mainly habit now so after he gets over his ear infections we are going to work on him waking up only 1 time a night. I don’t mind getting up with him at all as I’m not one to need sleep…however we waited way too long to form this habit with Lauren so we want to start it sooner than later with Colton so we don’t have to go through the screaming/crying fit when he is a year old like we did with Lauren. :-)
Just woke up from a nap so he wanted to snuggle daddy.

Taking his measurements...

Look at me! I'm a big boy now!!!
Dr Furlow, my ears hurt! :-(
At 6 months Colton is doing the following...
  • Going to bed around 8:30 p.m. and waking up at 12, 3 and 5 a.m. to eat
  • Sitting up for a few seconds and then falling over
  • Mimicking sounds and mouth movements of others
  • Holding things and trying to bring them to your mouth
  • Chewing on everything (teething but no teeth have broken through the skin yet)
  • Blowing bubbles
  • Pulling your feet up to your face constantly and taking your socks off
  • Interested in new sounds, colors, etc
  • Following people with your eyes all the way across the room

Not Feeling so good...

Sunday night we realized Lauren was being too quiet. We went into her room and she just wanted to lay there...so we checked her temp and she was running a slight fever of 100.5. We gave her Ibuprofen and the fever came down. Monday morning she was feeling better so we took her to school. By 10:30 the school called us and said she was running a fever of 102.5 so Kraig picked her up, took her home and played caretaker for the day, then took her to the doctor at 3. It turns out she had some kind of virus that just makes kids run a fever and feel bad until the fever breaks...then they feel fine. I was happy she didn't have the flu or strep! So Tuesday she could not go to school because she still had a slight fever of 99.5 so she got to go to Nana's house for the day. Here she is all comfy in her pj's about to leave for the day.
Glad you are feeling better now baby girl! I missed my rambunctious little girl but enjoyed the snuggle time while I had it!

1st of the season

Well, Lauren has not been herself lately, and had been running a low grade fever for a few days but Tylenol kept it under control. We thought it was just teething. We were wrong. I stayed home with her Monday afternoon after the daycare called and said she was not feeling well and by Tuesday she was not feeling well at all. We got a call from daycare saying she was running a fever of 101.4 and she had not ate all day. Kraig took her to the Dr. Tuesday afternoon and it turns out that Lauren had ear infections in BOTH ears! Poor baby! The bad news is that it's not even cold and flu season yet and she is already starting to get ear infections (due to runny nose, etc.). I just hope this is not the first of many, as she had 3 or 4 last year and they talked about getting tubes if she got more. Luckily she didn't get any more last season...but here we go again and it's not even into the full cold weather time! The Dr. looked at her history and told Kraig that if she has ear infections like she did last year they would have to put tubes in. :-( I've had people tell me that the tubes are actually not that bad...I just hate it that it's actual surgery! So please pray that my baby girl will not have any more ear infections!!!!
The good news is she has been on an antibiotic now for 2 days and she is feeling MUCH better! She is back to eating like normal and playing, etc. So it looks like it's on the up and up! :-)

Poor Baby!

Well, we got a call today around 12 noon from daycare that Lauren had thrown up 2 times. :-( I called the Dr.'s office and they could not get her in until 4:20 p.m. so Kraig went to pick her up. I finished a few things at work and left around 1 p.m. so that Kraig could go back to work and I could take care of Lauren. I always hate it when she is sick because there is not much you can do but you just feel so bad! I just held her this afternoon and kissed her cheeks to hopefully make her feel better. When we got to the Dr's office he said she looks great so it must be a stomach virus as they have had a lot of people with that lately. He said that we should not kiss on her and to make sure we wash our hands often because it's contagious and I instantly thought "I've been kissing her all afternoon!" but at the same time when we left there and she was crying and screaming I thought all I want to do is get home so I can hold her and kiss her to make her feel better! So I hope I don't get what she has, but if I do, making her feel better by comforting her was well worth it! The good news is the Dr. said that the throwing up part of the virus normally last only 24 hours...but then after that they will have diarrhea for 2 or 3 days more. I can handle diarrhea better than I can vomiting because I think it's easier on Lauren too! So please pray that Lauren will not throw up any more and that Kraig and I don't catch the virus! Thank you!
